Emmanuel College is seeking to appoint a Gate Porter. Working within a diverse team in the Porter’s Lodge, this is a busy and varied role across the College.
The Porter’s Lodge acts as the first point of contact for all users of the College, and we pride ourselves on being a warm and welcoming environment. The primary role of the Gate Porter is the safety and wellbeing of all College members, guests and visitors. The responsibilities include student wellbeing and safety, dealing with general enquiries, distribution of post, fire safety and the security of the College. We are looking for someone who has excellent customer service and communication skills along with the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people and complete a variety of tasks in a helpful, calm and flexible manner.
You will work as part of a friendly and welcoming team in this forward-facing role. The Porters’ Lodge is open 24/7, 365 days a year and there is a shift system in operation. Shifts vary between 9-12 hours and may consist of day, evening or night shifts according to a rota, and include working at weekends or on Bank holidays, normally working with at least one other team member. Average working hours will be 40 hours per week.
Previous experience in a customer-facing role is useful but not essential as training will be provided.
The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 31 July 2026
The College reserves the right to withdraw the advert before the closing date if we receive significant interest.
Emmanuel College is an equal opportunities employer. We have a policy of equality of opportunity for all staff. Applications are welcome regardless of race, colour, ethnic or national origin, sex, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, religious beliefs or age.
