How to apply
The selection process consists of 3 stages:
Stage 1. Application
Once you have completed the short application form (basic information, not assessed) you will need to pass 2 Civil Service online tests:
-
Civil Service Numerical Reasoning Test
-
Civil Service Verbal Reasoning Test
If you pass the online tests, you will need to return to your application to complete and submit a 250-word Personal Statement.
Your Personal Statement must answer the following questions, using a separate header for each (only use “Q1” and “Q2” as headers to save your wordcount):
-
Why are you interested in this Trainee Intelligence Officer role?
-
Why do you think you are suitable for this Trainee Intelligence Officer role?
You can decide how you split the 250-word limit between these two questions, and you must not include any words that could be used to identify you.
At the end of the application you will answer a yes/no question. If you meet any of these criteria, answer 'yes' in the box (but do not tell us which one):
-
I hold a full current UK driving licence and I am prepared to drive as part of this role, or
-
I hold a full current UK driving licence but I have grounds to request this requirement is removed as a reasonable adjustment (due to a disability or underlying health condition as covered by the Equality Act), or
-
I have grounds to request this requirement is removed as a reasonable adjustment (due to a disability or underlying health condition as covered by the Equality Act) and I do not hold a full current UK driving licence
If you do not meet one of the above criteria, you do not meet the essential criteria for this role and should not submit an application.
Applications that do not meet this essential criteria will be rejected at this stage, and your personal statement will not be assessed.
Stage 2. Pre-recorded Strength interview
If your application is shortlisted, you will be invited to submit a pre-recorded video interview to demonstrate your suitability for the role by answering four Strength questions. There is no expectation or requirement for you to prepare for Strength questions in advance, as we are looking for your instinctive natural responses, though you may find it helpful to reflect on what you enjoy doing and what you do well.
This is an example of a Strength question: “I find it difficult to explain my ideas clearly to a wide range of people. How true is that of you?” You typically have 2 minutes to answer each Strength question. You can also look at the Success Profiles framework for further information.
Depending on the number of applications being received, we may omit stage two and progress directly to stage 3.
Stage 3. Face to face interview
If your application is shortlisted, you will be invited to a face to face interview where we will assess Strengths and Behaviours.
The interview will take place with a panel of up to 3 people and will last up to 60 minutes. We recommend you review the Success Profiles Framework and consider how you have demonstrated the Behaviours for this role. Using the STAR format will help you structure your examples. The Success Profiles framework will provide further information.
Interview location will be confirmed prior to interview.
We may also raise the score required at any stage of the process if we receive a high number of applications.
