Care Home Cook / Chef – 33 Hours per Week (3 x 11‑Hour Shifts)

We are recruiting a dedicated Care Home Cook to join our warm and welcoming 26‑bed residential care home. This is a rewarding role, providing nutritious meals to our valued residents and contributing directly to their daily wellbeing.
The position is 33 hours per week, worked across three 11‑hour shifts, following a rolling 4‑week rota that includes working every other weekend. You will be the sole cook on shift, preparing breakfast, lunch and a light evening meal each day.
Job Overview
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys meaningful work, takes pride in home‑style cooking, and can run a small kitchen independently. You will oversee all aspects of food preparation during your shift, ensuring meals are well‑presented, nutritious and tailored to residents’ needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook breakfast, lunch and a light evening meal to set menus and dietary requirements
- Deliver high‑quality, nutritious meals that support residents’ health and wellbeing
- Maintain food safety and hygiene to the highest standards
- Manage stock levels, complete ordering and ensure efficient use of ingredients
- Contribute ideas for seasonal menus and themed meals
- Work independently as the only cook on shift
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in a professional kitchen — care‑home experience preferred
- Strong background in food preparation, cooking techniques and food safety
- Ability to work independently during long shifts
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage a small kitchen alone
- Knowledge of dietary needs, allergens and texture‑modified diets is advantageous
