Compliance Officer - Role Overview
The Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring all products manufactured and sold by the business meet the highest standards of regulatory compliance, product safety and technical quality across the UK and international markets.
This role safeguards the business by ensuring compliance is embedded throughout the entire product lifecycle—from concept and development through to manufacture, launch and ongoing production. Working closely with Operations, Marketing, Manufacturing Partners and external certification bodies, the Compliance Officer will ensure products remain legally compliant, technically accurate and aligned with company quality standards.
The successful candidate will combine strong regulatory knowledge with commercial awareness, helping the business deliver innovative products without compromising on quality, safety or compliance.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Compliance & Regulatory Affairs
- Ensure all products comply with UK and international food legislation, nutrition regulations and market-specific requirements.
- Maintain compliance with regulations relating to food supplements, vitamins and nutritional products.
- Monitor changes in legislation and proactively implement required business changes.
- Manage product registrations across domestic and international markets.
- Ensure compliance is considered throughout the product lifecycle, not solely at launch.
- Work with external regulatory consultants, laboratories and manufacturing partners to maintain compliance standards.
- Provide regulatory guidance to internal departments on compliance-related matters.
Product Quality & Technical Standards
- Develop and maintain technical product specifications.
- Manage quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) processes.
- Investigate product quality issues, customer complaints and non-conformances, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Review inbound outsourced products to ensure quality standards are achieved.
- Work alongside manufacturing partners to continuously improve product quality and consistency.
- Promote a company-wide culture of quality and continuous improvement.
Artwork, Packaging & Product Information
- Review and approve all product artwork, labels and packaging prior to production.
- Ensure food and nutrition labelling complies with all relevant legislation.
- Verify ingredient declarations, allergen information, nutrition panels, warnings and mandatory product information.
- Coordinate cross-functional artwork approvals with Marketing, Operations and Manufacturing.
- Ensure product information remains accurate across all customer and commercial channels.
Certification & Product Assurance
- Manage third-party certification programmes including Informed Sport and other relevant quality schemes.
- Coordinate laboratory testing, product analysis and technical verification.
- Manage:
- Product testing
- Batch testing
- Certificates of Analysis (CoAs)
- Certificates of Conformity (CoCs)
- Stability testing where applicable
- Ensure certification requirements are integrated into new product development.
Technical Documentation & Compliance Records
- Maintain accurate technical files and compliance documentation.
- Produce and maintain:
- Technical specifications
- SDS (Safety Data Sheets)
- Hazard classifications
- Product dossiers
- Regulatory documentation
- Manage document control, archiving and version management.
- Ensure compliance records are audit-ready at all times.
International & Commercial Compliance
- Support compliance across UK, EU, USA and other international markets.
- Ensure commercial customers receive all required compliance documentation.
- Support retailer and distributor technical compliance requirements.
- Work with Operations to ensure imported and exported products meet destination market requirements.
Reporting & Performance
- Monitor compliance KPIs and technical performance metrics.
- Analyse quality and compliance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Produce reports for senior leadership on compliance performance, risks and corrective actions.
- Support internal and external audits.
Health & Safety
- Provide technical guidance relating to Health & Safety where applicable.
- Support compliance with internal H&S procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with risk assessments relating to product handling and compliance activities.
Skills & ExperienceEssential
- Experience in a Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, Technical or Quality role within food, nutrition or dietary supplements.
- Strong understanding of:
- UK Food Regulations
- Nutrition & Health Claims legislation
- Food Supplement Regulations
- Food Information Regulations
- Experience managing product specifications and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of QA/QC processes.
- Experience working with third-party testing laboratories and certification bodies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Confident in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Desirable
- Experience with Informed Sport or similar certification schemes.
- Knowledge of EU and US regulatory requirements.
- Experience with retailer technical standards.
- HACCP or Food Safety qualifications.
- Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Regulatory Affairs or a related discipline.

Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
