Responsibilities
- Safely operate a Class 1 Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV), including flatbed trucks, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after each shift to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with legal standards
- Load, secure, and unload cargo with precision, especially when handling flatbed loads that require careful strapping and balancing
- Plan efficient delivery routes to meet deadlines while optimizing fuel consumption and driving time
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation, including logs, delivery notes, and inspection reports
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery schedules, delays, or issues on the road
- Follow all company policies related to driving hours, rest periods, and safety procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements
Skills
- Proven experience as a commercial delivery driver, ideally with flatbed load handling
- Strong knowledge of driving regulations for heavy goods vehicles and road safety practices
- Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record and a valid HGV Class 1 license
- Ability to secure loads properly on flatbeds and handle various cargo types confidently
- Good navigation skills and familiarity with route planning tools or GPS systems
- Strong communication skills for liaising with clients, dispatchers, and team members
- Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of professionalism and safety awareness
