Rate: £20.96 per hour
About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, patient and adaptable Swimming Instructor to join a specialist SEND school supporting children and young people with complex learning needs and a range of additional needs.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering safe, engaging and appropriately adapted swimming sessions, helping pupils develop their water confidence, swimming ability, independence and physical wellbeing.
This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Swimming Instructor who is passionate about working with children and young people and can create a calm, supportive and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver safe, engaging and structured swimming sessions for pupils with a range of individual needs.
- Adapt swimming activities and instruction to meet pupils' varying abilities and learning needs.
- Support pupils in developing water confidence, swimming skills and greater independence.
- Create a calm, safe and inclusive environment in and around the swimming pool.
- Use appropriate communication methods and adapt your approach to support individual pupils.
- Encourage participation and celebrate pupils' progress and achievements.
- Work closely with school staff to understand individual needs and support plans.
- Promote pupils' physical wellbeing, confidence and personal development.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety within the pool environment.
- Follow the school's safeguarding procedures and policies at all times.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience delivering swimming instruction.
- Experience working with children and/or young people.
- Experience working within a SEND or specialist education environment is desirable.
- A patient, compassionate and understanding approach.
- The ability to adapt activities and teaching styles to meet individual needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The confidence to work with pupils with complex learning and additional needs.
- A strong understanding of pool safety and safeguarding.
- The ability to create a positive, calm and supportive learning environment.
