Reports to: Group Director
Location: UK, remote with periodic travel
Contract: Permanent, or 3 to 6 month consultancy converting to permanent
Salary: £110,000 to £130,000 base plus discretionary bonus. (Consultancy equivalent £650 to £800 per day, IR35 status determination to be issued before engagement).
Context
We run a group of technology and iGaming companies across the UK, Curacao and Cyprus. Group reporting currency is EUR. Revenue arrives mainly through payment service provider settlements in multiple currencies. Source systems today include Sage 50, Frappe ERP and manual spreadsheets.
We are replacing Sage 50 with an in-house finance platform. The engineering side is moving fast. The accounting rules behind it are the constraint. This role owns those rules.
Purpose of the role
Own the group finance rulebook. Define, document and sign off every accounting rule the platform implements, and prove the numbers it produces. Each rule must be stated as a testable condition with a worked example. Each reconciliation must have a named control and evidence.
You are the final authority on the number. Nothing affecting the ledger ships without your sign off.
Responsibilities
· Own the group nominal structure and the mapping of every entity ledger into it
· Define FX policy under IAS 21: rate sources, rate types per line, treatment of monetary balances, destination of translation differences
· Define PSP settlement accounting: revenue recognition point, player liability, provider fees, rolling reserve, chargebacks, unsettled balances and their controls
· Define intercompany recharge and elimination rules, including retranslation of intercompany balances and treatment of residual differences
· Own the month-end close calendar and checklist across all three jurisdictions
· Write acceptance criteria for the development team, review implementations against them, sign off releases
· Own the monthly management pack: profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, working capital, variance commentary
· Own UK MTD VAT and coordinate Cyprus and Curacao filings with external advisers
· Maintain audit trail and controls documentation to a standard an external auditor accepts
· Prepare the group for its first consolidated statutory audit
Essential requirements
· ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
· 6 or more years post qualification
· Has personally owned a multi-entity consolidation of three or more companies across at least two jurisdictions, in more than one currency
· Applies IAS 21 translation and intercompany elimination from working knowledge, without needing to research the basics
· Led the finance side of at least one accounting system migration or implementation
· Has written specifications or acceptance criteria for developers, and reviewed delivered work against them
· Advanced Excel. Able to read SQL and query source data directly
· Willing to work inside AI tooling daily and to have conclusions challenged
Desirable
· Payments, PSP or iGaming finance experience
· Migration off Sage 50
· Frappe or ERPNext
· IFRS group accounts preparation
· Awareness of Cyprus and Curacao filing requirements
How we work
AI agents write the code. You define the rule and prove the number. You will be challenged by an agent that cites source data back at you, and you are expected to challenge it back the same way. Candidates who need a manual bookkeeping team to function will not enjoy this role.
We value precision over speed. A rule stated slowly and correctly beats a fast answer we later unwind.
