Job Vacancy – Children’s Cook
Stepping Stones is an outstanding childcare provider which provides childcare for children aged 2-11 years. Stepping Stones operate sessional care, via Breakfast Club, Playgroup, Preschool and Afterschool facilities each day within term time and a Holiday Club out of term time.
Stepping Stones Pre-school currently has a vacancy for a Children’s Cook 25 to 30 hours per week (we can possibly look at a 5.30pm finish if 6pm is an issue). The successful candidate will work the following days term time only although a 52 week contract can be discussed.
Monday 12pm – 6pm or 1pm - 6pm
Tuesday 12pm – 6pm or 1pm - 6pm
Wednesday 12pm – 6pm or 1pm - 6pm
Thursday 12pm – 6pm or 1pm - 6pm
Friday 12pm – 6pm or 1pm - 6pm
Main duties/Responsibilities
- Catering for a large number of children each day.
- Ensure that all kitchen policies and procedures are followed.
- Responsible for children’s dietary & allergy requirements and to keep the team informed of any change especially new members of staff.
- Ensure the kitchen is maintained and cleaned in a manner that meets/or exceeds the Department of Health Standards, and to undertake a deep clean once a month.
- Ensure the full kitchen uniform, PPE is worn and personal hygiene requirements are maintained to a high standard.
- To ensure that all foods are covered and safely stored prior to serving and during transportation to the three different rooms.
- To use stock take form and food wastage form to monitor purchasing more accurately.
- To ensure that foods stored in the refrigerators and cupboards are covered and labelled.
- Temperatures of high-risk foods must be recorded at point of cooking and serving.
- To prevent cross contamination of food within the kitchen area.
- To ensure the kitchen and equipment is kept clean, hygienic and in good working order, including all fridges and freezers, walls, ovens, floors and serving trolleys following the cleaning schedule. Crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are washed and sterilised in accordance with food safety guidelines.
- To monitor and record the temperature of all fridge’s and freezer’ on a daily basis.
- Produce monthly food menus keeping within budget.
- Organise themed events.
- Prepare and deliver afternoon snack for the rooms.
- Enjoy being involved with children and carrying out small weekly cookery activities.
**Qualifications and Skills
- Experience of meal preparation and cooking in an early years, school or care environment would be ideal but other experience will be taken into account.
- Experience of menu planning and ordering food would be useful.
- Experience, knowledge and understanding of Environmental Health Food Safety and Health and Safety regulations, guidelines and record keeping. Training can be given for this.
- Knowledge and understanding of catering for variety of dietary needs and allergies.
- Food Safety Level 2, NVQ level 2 desirable but training will be provided.
