Pyro Protection Ltd is looking for an experienced Sprinkler Design and Project Engineer to take ownership of projects from initial design through to successful completion. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical design with project management while working on a wide range of commercial, industrial and specialist fire protection projects throughout the UK.
Working closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams, you will be responsible for producing high-quality sprinkler system designs while managing projects from initial concept through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
· Design automatic fire sprinkler systems in accordance with relevant industry standards (LPC Automatic Sprinkler Installation Rules, NFPA and FM Global) and client specifications.
· Produce detailed design drawings, hydraulic calculations, material schedules, and technical documentation.
· Manage multiple projects simultaneously, in accordance with our ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
· Coordinate with customers, architects, consultants, contractors, and installation teams throughout the project lifecycle.
· Attend design meetings, site surveys, and project progress meetings.
· Review project specifications and identify design solutions that deliver compliance and value.
· Manage procurement activities, including material schedules, purchase orders and project cost control.
· Provide technical guidance to installation teams during project delivery.
· Support and manage on-site resources, resolving issues and maintaining project programmes.
· Undertake and record on-site inspections and facilitate on-site toolbox talks.
· Prepare and maintain all health and safety documentation, including RAMS, toolbox talks, attendance records and site documentation.
· Assist with commissioning, testing, and project handover where required.
· Complete and submit all end-of-project documentation, including O and M manuals, as-fitted drawings and certification.
· Identify and invoice contract variations.
· Prepare and agree final accounts.
· Participate in internal and third-party audits.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
· Experience designing fire sprinkler systems within the fire protection industry.
· Strong knowledge of relevant sprinkler design standards and regulations.
· Proven experience using AutoCAD and sprinkler hydraulic calculation software (e.g. FHC), including the preparation of hydraulic calculations and technical documentation.
· Excellent project management and organisational skills.
· Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
· A proactive approach with excellent problem-solving abilities.
· A full UK driving licence.
· Experience of Revit/BIM would be advantageous but is not essential.
Essential Qualifications
LPCB qualifications Basic and FHC certification
Full UK Driving Licence
Valid CSCS card
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
LPCB Advanced Sprinkler Design qualification.
HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience using Revit/BIM.
SMSTS qualification.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Experience designing special risk fire protection systems.
