Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and physically fit Yard Operative to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing materials, operating machinery, and maintaining a safe and organised yard environment. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with warehouse experience or mechanical knowledge to develop their skills within a dynamic construction and logistics setting. The position involves hands-on work, heavy lifting, and the utilisation of various equipment, including forklifts. All roles are paid positions, including internships.
Duties
- Load and unload materials using appropriate handling techniques and equipment such as forklifts
- Assist with shipping and receiving operations, ensuring accurate documentation and organisation
- Manage materials handling within the yard, including storage, stacking, and movement of goods
- Operate warehouse management systems to track inventory and stock levels
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and yard areas to ensure safety standards are maintained
- Support construction activities by providing materials and logistical assistance as required
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment at all times
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of tasks
Skills
- Proven experience in warehouse operations or construction environments is preferred
- Valid forklift licence or certification is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of warehouse management systems and materials handling procedures
- Mechanical knowledge beneficial for equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently over extended periods
- Experience in shipping & receiving processes, including load & unload operations
- Good organisational skills with attention to detail
- Physically fit with the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
