About the role:
We're recruiting a Personal Assistant to support a young man in Newcastle with an acquired brain injury. This is a part time role, three mornings a week, ideal alongside other work, study or a second PA role.
About our client:
- An active young man who enjoys keeping fit, going to the gym, and has recently taken up playing pool
- Rebuilding his independence after a brain injury, and currently working with a Vocational Rehab specialist as he works towards finding a job in the future
- Can have low energy and motivation some days, and finds it hard to keep a consistent sleep routine
- Has limited insight into how his impairments affect his day to day life, so benefits from a PA who can gently support him to recognise and manage his own needs
- Open, easy to get on with, and has built strong, trusting relationships with his rehab team, which includes an OT, psychologist and case manager
- Needs practical support with his morning routine, budgeting, meal planning, shopping and general day to day admin
Shift patterns and hours:
- Currently Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10am to 1pm
- Potential weekend avaialibility as the role develops
What you'll be doing:
- Supporting and encouraging his morning routine (getting up, getting ready)
- Offering general encouragement and motivation day to day, and gently supporting him to recognise and manage his own needs
- Helping with budgeting and meal planning
- Supporting with shopping
- Supporting general life admin and work-readiness, alongside his wider rehab team (OT, psychologist, case manager)
What we're looking for:
- Right to work in the UK
- Availability on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday mornings, 10am to 1pm
- An open, non-judgmental approach, and comfort supporting someone from a different faith or cultural background to your own
- A patient, encouraging manner, comfortable building trust gradually with someone who may take a little time to open up
Nice to have:
- Experience supporting someone with a brain injury (full training provided if not)
