Rate: £15.20 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay)
At Harmony Healthcare, we believe exceptional care is delivered by exceptional people. We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Complex Care Support Worker to provide high-quality, person-centred care to an individual living with significant and complex physical health needs.
The successful candidate will have experience supporting individuals with high-level spinal cord injuries, paralysis, neurogenic bladder and bowel, catheter care, and complex clinical needs. You must be confident working as part of a multidisciplinary care team while promoting dignity, independence, choice and quality of life.
Clinical experience required:
The individual has a C4 AIS A spinal cord injury with paralysis below the shoulders, sustained in December 2021, following a serious spinal infection and spinal epidural abscess with spinal cord compression.
Experience and understanding of the following complex conditions and care needs would be highly desirable:
C4 AIS A spinal cord injury with paralysis below the shoulders
Longitudinally extensive spinal epidural abscess with spinal cord compression
High cervical intramedullary cord signal abnormality
Spinal epidural abscess extending through the right L1/2 intervertebral foramen
Multilevel discitis affecting C4/5, L2/3 and L5/S1
Right-sided septic facet joint arthritis at L5/S1
Neuropathic bladder, managed with a suprapubic catheter
Neurogenic bowel, requiring digital rectal stimulation and manual evacuation
Damaged vocal cords following spinal injury
Hypertension
Adhesive capsulitis
The individual also has a significant medical history including:
Breast cancer, including right lumpectomy, lymph node excision and radiotherapy in 2014
Recurrence requiring further right breast cancer surgery/lumpectomy in 2023
Aggressive breast cancer currently under investigation, with treatment discussions pending
Depression
Anxiety
Seasonal affective disorder
Psoriasis
Shifts Available:
We offer consistent and predictable shifts to support your work–life balance and financial stability.
Monday to Friday - 08:30am and 21:00pm
1-hour break for the 12-hour carer
Double up 1 hour in the morning and 3 visits of 45 minutes.
The role:
Your responsibilities will include providing safe, respectful and consistent support with:
Personal care and activities of daily living
Continence and suprapubic catheter care
Neurogenic bowel management, including digital rectal stimulation and manual evacuation, following the individual's established care plan and appropriate training
Safe moving and positioning, including use of relevant equipment
Monitoring and reporting changes in physical or emotional wellbeing
Supporting skin integrity and pressure-area care
Medication support, where appropriately trained and authorised
Communication and advocacy
Emotional wellbeing and companionship
Maintaining accurate care records
Working closely with family members, healthcare professionals and the wider care team
Following all clinical protocols, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures
About you:
We are looking for someone who is:
Experienced in complex care or high-dependency care
Confident supporting people with spinal cord injuries and significant physical disabilities
Experienced or willing to undertake training in suprapubic catheter care and neurogenic bowel management
Comfortable providing intimate personal care
Patient, calm and emotionally resilient
Able to recognise changes in condition and escalate concerns appropriately
Respectful of dignity, privacy and individual choice
Reliable, professional and compassionate
A strong communicator who can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Committed to delivering consistent, person-centred care
Previous experience with C4-level spinal cord injury, neurogenic bladder and bowel management would be particularly advantageous.
Full training, competency assessment and an appropriate induction will be provided where required. Applicants must be willing to complete all mandatory and role-specific training before undertaking relevant clinical tasks.
