William Booth College is seeking a reliable, motivated, and customer-focused General Assistant to join our Hospitality Team on a full-time basis. William Booth College is an iconic building designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and has been at the heart of The Salvation Army's leadership training since 1929. We provide residential accommodation, meeting facilities, hospitality, and catering services to The Salvation Army and external groups from across the United Kingdom and beyond.
Job Summary
As a General Assistant, you will support the day-to-day operation of the college by helping to maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, and professional environment for guests, visitors, residents, and staff.
The role provides operational support outside the core hours of the existing Housekeeping Team and requires a high degree of independence and self-management. This is a multi-skilled role, and the successful candidate will be expected to support the Housekeeping, Reception, and Catering Teams as operational requirements dictate. Flexibility and a willingness to undertake a variety of tasks are essential.
Responsibilities:

Cleaning bedrooms, meeting rooms, offices, and public areas

Vacuuming, mopping, dusting, washroom cleaning, and waste disposal

Setting up meeting rooms, classrooms, and conference facilities

Supporting hospitality and catering services
-
Preparing and serving hot and cold beverages
-
Assisting with conferences, events, and residential programmes
-
Supporting Reception duties, including assisting guests and visitors
-
Maintaining vending machines and service areas
-
Reporting maintenance issues and health and safety concerns
-
Working alongside Reception, Catering, Housekeeping, and Maintenance Teams

Providing excellent customer service to guests, visitors, residents, and staff

Responding to changing operational requirements and supporting different departments as required
Successful candidate will have:

Previous experience in hospitality, housekeeping, customer service, catering, or a similar environment

A positive "can do" attitude

Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision

Excellent communication and customer service skills

Can work effectively as part of a team

Flexible, adaptable, and willing to undertake a variety of tasks

Can prioritise workloads and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously

Is reliable, professional, and responsive to operational requirements

Is able to undertake physical duties, including lifting, moving equipment, room setups, and climbing stairs

Is willing to work within and be sympathetic to the Christian ethos and values of The Salvation Army

Experience within hotels, conference centres, residential venues, hospitality, catering, or customer-facing environments would be advantageous.
