Specification Technologist

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 5.30 pm

Salary: £39,250
We’re recruiting a Specification Technologist for a well-established food manufacturing and airline catering business based in London.
Working as part of the Technical team and reporting to the Specification Manager, you’ll be responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate product specifications and technical documents. You’ll work closely with suppliers, customers and internal teams to ensure products meet food safety, quality, legal and customer requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare, review and update finished product specifications within customer deadlines
- Compile and maintain raw material specifications
- Request and maintain supplier documents, including Certificates of Analysis and Certificates of Conformity
- Ensure specifications are updated following changes to recipes, legislation or supplier information
- Complete customer technical documents, including Quality Attribute Sheets and nutritional information
- Calculate ingredient declarations, allergens and nutritional values using Nutricalc or similar software
- Manage customer specification systems and retailer portals, including Waves
- Support new product launches, nutritional analysis, shelf-life testing and specification completion
- Assist with product benchmarking activities
- Keep up to date with food legislation, labelling requirements and industry standards
- Respond to technical queries from customers, suppliers and colleagues
- Support customer, internal and third-party audits
- Help maintain the company’s food safety, quality, legality and authenticity standards
- Complete technical projects within agreed timescales
Skills and experience
The successful candidate should have:
- Previous technical experience within food manufacturing
- Experience preparing and maintaining food product specifications
- A good understanding of food safety, quality systems and food legislation
- Knowledge of ingredient declarations, allergen legislation and food labelling requirements
- Experience calculating nutritional values using Nutricalc or similar software
- Experience using customer specification systems or retailer portals
- HACCP training and Internal Auditor training, or a willingness to complete these
- Strong attention to detail
- Good organisation and time-management skills
- Confidence managing several deadlines at the same time
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Good Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
