About the Role:
We are looking for a caring, reliable Kitchen Assistant / 2nd Chef to join our team within a friendly care home environment. You will support the Head Chef in preparing nutritious, home-style meals for our residents, ensuring dietary needs and preferences are always met. The main job role is for the ability to work alone following training to complete afternoon Tea shift cover, as well as covering where possible sickness and annual leave
Shift patterns - Early - 0800-1400 / Tea time shift - 15:30-16:30
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing and cooking balanced, nutritious meals for residents
- Support special dietary requirements (e.g. soft diets, allergies, cultural needs)
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen
- Follow all food safety and health & safety regulations
- Assist with stock control, rotation, and storage
- Ensure meals are prepared and served on time in a calm, organised manner
- Work closely with care staff to support residents’ needs
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a kitchen environment (care or catering setting desirable)
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Understanding of dietary requirements for older people (desirable)
- A caring and patient approach
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team, as well as alone, when completing evening / teatime shifts
