The Role
We are looking for a reliable and caring Afternoon Cook to support our kitchen team at Barrington Lodge Nursing Home
This is a lighter, hands-on role focused on preparing and serving afternoon tea and evening meals, ensuring residents enjoy fresh, nutritious, and well-presented food.
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, approximately 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM
What You Will Do
- Prepare and serve light meals, evening meals, and refreshments
- Assist in delivering a pleasant and homely dining experience for residents
- Support with simple food preparation in line with dietary requirements
- Ensure meals are served on time and to a good standard
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen at all times
- Work closely with the main Chef and care team
Key Responsibilities
- Follow food hygiene and safety standards (HACCP)
- Support residents’ dietary needs (e.g. soft diets, vegetarian, allergies)
- Keep kitchen areas clean, organised, and safe
- Assist with stock rotation and basic kitchen organisation
- Ensure a calm and friendly approach when interacting with residents
What We’re Looking For
- Previous kitchen or catering experience preferred (care home experience is a plus)
- Basic understanding of food hygiene and safe food handling
- A positive, reliable, and flexible attitude
- Good time management and organisation skills
- Friendly and respectful approach towards residents and colleagues
- Food Hygiene Level 2 (preferred, training can be provided)
