Role: Sleep-In Support Worker – UASC Young People
Location: Hereford
Salary: £12.71 per hour
Contract: Temporary / Bank
Shift Pattern: Sleep-in shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays (22:30-08:00)
About the Role
We are looking for compassionate, resilient, and dedicated individuals to join our team supporting Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) and young people aged 16–18 within supported accommodation.
As a Sleep-In Support Worker, you will play a vital role in helping young people develop independence, feel safe, and achieve positive outcomes as they transition into adulthood. The role involves providing overnight support and responding calmly and effectively to any issues or emergencies that may arise during the night.
You will work as part of a supportive team to create a safe, nurturing, and culturally sensitive environment for young people who may have experienced trauma, displacement, or significant life challenges. UASC support roles commonly focus on safeguarding, emotional wellbeing, housing stability, education, and independent living skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overnight supervision and support within the accommodation setting
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of young people at all times
- Respond appropriately to incidents, safeguarding concerns, or emergencies
- Build positive and professional relationships with young people
- Support young people with daily living and independence skills
- Maintain accurate records, handovers, and incident reports
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion within the service
- Work collaboratively with social workers, education providers, and external agencies
- Encourage engagement in education, training, and employment opportunities
What We’re Looking For
- Experience working with young people, care leavers, or vulnerable individuals
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations
- Good communication and report-writing skills
- Empathy, patience, and cultural awareness
- Flexibility to work sleep-in and shift patterns
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (desirable, but not essential)
- Full UK driving licence (desirable)
