For almost 200 years, UCL Laws has been one of the leading centres of legal education in the world. Our community of intellectually dynamic scholars responds to today’s global challenges, and through our research, we help to shape government policy, national and international law and its practice. At the heart of legal London, we attract the leading figures in the field to contribute to our vibrant programme of events, informing public debate and understanding of contemporary social, legal, environmental and economic issues.
The UCL Laws student body numbers around 1250 students, divided between 850 undergraduate, 350 taught graduate, and 50 graduate research students. The faculty has an academic staff of around 70 professors, lecturers and readers, as well as many visiting professors and distinguished judicial visitors. Throughout our long history, we have been committed to the values of the founders of UCL: justice, liberty and equal rights for all.
The Faculty of Laws has a large and experienced professional services team, led by the Director of Operations. It is structured to support defined areas of academic activity and the governance, management, operations and leadership of the Faculty. The Faculty Operations Team is responsible for the smooth running of the Faculty’s day to day operations including HR, finance and purchasing, estates management, and administrative support.
This role provides a comprehensive and efficient support service across all aspects of HR, including, but not limited to, recruitment, promotions, probation, appraisals, attendance and absence. The Senior HR Officer will build effective and positive working relationships within the Faculty, providing key advice and guidance to staff and managers, ensuring compliance and adherence to UCL policy and procedures.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level, or equivalent professional experience, with a working and up to date knowledge of UK employment law and policy. They will have demonstrable experience of working in a HR generalist role, ideally in a Higher Education or similarly complex setting. Excellent communication skills are essential, along with highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to listen with empathy and compassion. Proactive and self-motivated, the successful candidate will be able to work with autonomy, effectively managing competing priorities and deadlines.
The deadline for applications is 21 June 2026. Interviews are likely to take place in the week commencing 29 June 2026.
