SEMH Occupational Therapist
Location: Hillingdon, West London
Salary: £170 - £260 per day PAYE
Job Type: Full time, Term Time Only, Temp to Perm
Start Date: September 2026
About the role
What if the right support could help a young person become more independent, more confident and better able to engage with everyday life?
A specialist SEND school in Hillingdon is looking for a dedicated SEMH Occupational Therapist to join its team and support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and additional SEND.
This is an opportunity to use your occupational therapy experience in a school environment where therapy is closely connected to pupils' learning, development and independence.
The setting
The school supports young people aged 11–19 with SEMH and a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD and speech, language and social communication needs.
The approach focuses on understanding individual barriers, developing independence and helping young people build the skills they need for their next steps.
The role
As a SEMH Occupational Therapist, you will:
- Complete occupational therapy assessments
- Develop individualised OT programmes and interventions
- Support pupils with sensory, functional and developmental needs
- Identify barriers to learning, participation and independence
- Work alongside teachers and support staff
- Provide practical strategies and advice to education staff
- Contribute to EHCP assessments and reviews
- Monitor progress and adapt interventions
- Work collaboratively with families and other professionals
You will have the opportunity to make occupational therapy part of the wider school day rather than simply delivering individual sessions.
Who we are looking for
This role would suit an Occupational Therapist with experience working with children and young people, particularly within paediatrics, SEND, SEMH or education.
You will need to be:
- HCPC registered
- Confident with assessment and intervention
- A strong clinical thinker
- Comfortable supporting young people with complex needs
- Able to build positive relationships
- Organised and confident with professional reports
- Collaborative and adaptable
- Committed to person-centred practice
Experience with Autism, SEMH, sensory needs or communication difficulties would be beneficial.
Why this role matters
For some young people, everyday tasks that appear simple can become significant barriers.
Occupational therapy can help them develop the skills and strategies to manage those challenges, participate more fully in school and become more independent.
Your work could help a pupil manage sensory input, engage with learning, develop daily living skills or feel more confident in their environment.
Those small steps can make a big difference.
