Job Introduction
Healthy outcomes start with positive patient experiences.
As a Porter at Sodexo in Ipswich Hospital, you’ll be an essential part of the hospital’s daily operations — safely moving patients, vital equipment, and medical supplies throughout the site. With professionalism and a friendly approach, you’ll help reduce the stress of hospital visits for patients, staff, and visitors alike.
What you’ll do:
-
Safely transport patients throughout the hospital using wheelchairs, beds, trolleys or escorting them on foot.
-
Support patient care by assisting clinical teams with patient movements when required.
-
Transport medical equipment, specimens, blood products, pharmaceuticals, medical gases and confidential records safely and efficiently.
-
Assist with the movement and storage of furniture, equipment and supplies across the hospital.
-
Collect, transport and dispose of general, clinical, confidential and recycling waste in line with hospital procedures.
-
Deliver mail, goods and materials across the site while maintaining confidentiality and security standards.
-
Maintain stock levels and ensure equipment, wheelchairs and trolleys are clean, safe and ready for use.
-
Respond appropriately to emergency, evacuation and security situations when required.
-
Follow all health and safety, infection prevention and control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.
-
Provide a professional, helpful and compassionate service to patients, visitors and staff at all times.
-
Embrace new technologies and ways of working to continually improve service delivery.
What you bring:
-
A caring, patient-focused approach with empathy for patients, visitors and colleagues.
-
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
-
A positive, enthusiastic and professional attitude.
-
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-
Strong customer service experience, ideally gained in a frontline environment.
-
Physical fitness and the ability to undertake a role involving walking, standing, pushing and pulling for extended periods.
-
Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and nights where required.
-
Good literacy skills and the ability to accurately record information.
-
Basic IT skills and confidence using workplace systems and software.
-
The ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively in challenging situations.
-
Previous portering, healthcare, hospitality or customer-facing experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
