Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious meals tailored to the needs of children in our nursery setting. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the well-being and development of young children through healthy, well-prepared food. The Nursery Cook will work in a warm, organised environment, ensuring all food safety standards are met and that meals are served promptly and attractively.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of nutritious meals suitable for children, adhering to dietary requirements and nutritional guidelines
- Plan weekly menus in collaboration with nursery staff, ensuring variety and balance
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness in all areas of food preparation and storage
- Assist with the organisation of meal times, serving food in a friendly and efficient manner
- Monitor stock levels of ingredients and supplies, placing orders as necessary to ensure continuous availability
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper handling of allergens and special dietary needs
- Keep the kitchen area clean, organised, and compliant with hygiene standards at all times
- Support the team during meal preparation activities, ensuring smooth operation during busy periods
Requirements
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably within a childcare or nursery environment
- Knowledge of food safety standards and procedures relevant to food handling for children
- Experience with meal planning and preparation for young children with specific dietary requirements
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively during busy periods
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while maintaining a friendly and professional attitude
- Previous experience working in a kitchen or restaurant setting is desirable but not essential
- A genuine passion for providing healthy meals that promote children's growth and development
Pay: £12.80-£13.50 per hour
