WCB NE is looking for experienced and compassionate Support Workers to join our growing team, providing high-quality care and support to children and young people experiencing crisis.
This is an exciting opportunity to join WCB at an important stage of our growth, as we continue our CQC registration journey and expand our services. Permanent team members may have the opportunity to work across a number of our homes, providing variety, valuable experience, and ongoing career development.
You will support young people who may have experienced trauma, emotional distress, challenging behaviour, or disruption in their lives. Your role will be to create a safe, stable, and nurturing environment where every young person feels heard, valued, and supported to build confidence and achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, practical, and person-centred support to children and young people in crisis.
- Safeguard and promote the wellbeing of every young person in your care.
- Respond calmly, professionally, and effectively to challenging situations and behaviours.
- Build positive, consistent, and trusting relationships.
- Support young people with daily routines, education, independence, and essential life skills.
- Contribute to a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained home environment.
- Assist with everyday household tasks, including cooking and cleaning.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and professional records.
- Contribute to care plans, risk assessments, progress reviews, and handovers.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, social workers, and other external professionals.
- Work flexibly across different WCB homes when required.
Essential Requirements
- A minimum of 12 months’ experience supporting children or young people with challenging or complex behaviours.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- A calm, resilient, compassionate, and non-judgemental approach.
- The ability to remain professional and effective in high-pressure situations.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and relationship-building skills.
- Flexibility to work a range of shifts, including weekends, sleep-ins, waking nights, and bank holidays.
- An Enhanced DBS certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
- The ability to provide a full five-year employment history and satisfactory references.
- Willingness to complete all required pre-employment checks and training.
- Flexibility to work across different homes and locations when required.
Desirable
- A full UK driving licence.
- Relevant health and social care qualifications.
- Experience working in residential care, crisis support, or children’s services.
