Job overview
We are looking for a reliable and professional GP Receptionist to join our team.
This is a key front-facing role and you will often be the first point of contact for our patients, helping to create a welcoming and efficient experience. Alongside patient interaction, you will carry out a range of administrative duties to support the smooth running of the practice.
Working hours
- Part-time: 21 hours per week
- Shifts: 3 days per week (7-hour shifts)
- Practice hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 6:30pm
- Flexible working days and shift patterns can be discussed
- Team members are expected to provide reasonable cover for colleagues when needed
- Paid overtime available for additional hours worked
Key responsibilities
- Greet patients in a friendly and professional manner
- Assist with patient check-in and registration
- Book, amend, and cancel appointments accurately
- Answer incoming calls and direct queries appropriately
- Maintain and update patient records in line with practice procedures
- Support communication between patients and clinicians
- Provide support to the online clinical triage process, ensuring patients receive timely and appropriate responses to both medical and administrative requests
- Monitor and respond to emails and online consultation forms in a timely and professional manner
- Contact patients to arrange appointments for long-term condition reviews, medication reviews, and health checks
- Process incoming documents and correspondence
- Keep the reception area clean, tidy, and welcoming
What we’re looking for
- Strong administrative and organisational skills
- Confident using computers, including Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Ability to work calmly in a busy environment
- Good attention to detail
- A caring, patient, and professional approach when dealing with the public
- A team player who is flexible and willing to support colleagues
Experience
- Previous experience in a GP practice or healthcare setting is helpful but not essential
- Experience with systems such as EMIS, Docman, Accurx, or TeamNet is an advantage
- Full training will be provided
