CHILDREN HOME REGISTERED MANAGER
For a new children’s home in Slough, Berkshire.
We are a new provider based in Slough Berkshire, in the process of opening our first Children Home . This is our first home and we are focusing on growing the company by building our portfolio based on a commitment to quality, child focus and sustainable matching decisions for our children and young people. The director has extensive experience in Children Homes an Safeguarding.
We are looking for an experienced manager who can ensure the home is stable and well-run, and homely. We are looking for a candidate with a proven track-record of making a real difference to the lives of the young people we care for, and someone who can be very much part of the local community. The home offers a therapeutic parenting support model to the young people we care for and we are looking for a manager who has experience of PACE and promotes positive behaviour support.
The successful candidate will have two years management experience of residential childcare management, with an in-depth knowledge of the legislative and guidance framework, as well as a deep commitment to making a difference to the lives of young people in our care, who come from diverse backgrounds. You need to plan effectively to ensure we provide care that meets each individual child’s needs and adds value to their care experience.
This role is one that requires a high level of organisational and administrative skill along with an ability to lead and manage a team of residential staff. A track record of collaborative working with young people’s families, professionals and other agencies is important.
Post holders will be required to work a minimum of 37 hours per week. You will also be expected to participate in an on-call rota during evenings and weekends.
The salary package is competitive at £45 - £50k plus on- and potential bonuses. This reflects the crucial significance of the role, your qualifications and experience. We are looking for someone to grow with the company and we want to invest in you for the long term.
You will ideally hold a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children and Young People Settings or higher/equivalent, combined with a leadership and management qualification or transferable experience, and a willingness to complete the Level 5 Diploma within 12 months of taking up the post. The ideal candidate must also possess 2 years experience of managing children in a residential childcare setting.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose:
- To act as Ofsted Registered Manager to deliver services which are fully compliant with legislative and regulatory requirements, whilst creating safe, positive, nurturing residential placements for children and young people.
- To be responsible for the effective development and delivery of high-quality residential services to children and young people and their families that improves care outcomes.
- To ensure that there are effective retention and recruitment processes in place
- To ensure that children are safeguarded and all incidents are fully investigated with the relevant professionals notified in accordance with statutory timeframes.

The Registered Manager is responsible for:
- Demonstrating ambitious vision and having high expectations of our children and what they can achieve.
- Demonstrating a clear understanding of the progress children and young people are making in respect of their care plan
- To ensure high standards of individualised care, providing the right supportive environment for staff through effective supervision and high-quality induction and training programmes that are tailored to the specific needs of the children and young people
- Knowing and understanding the home’s strengths and weaknesses, prevent shortfalls, identify weaknesses and take decisive and effective action
- Knowing whether the home is achieving its stated aims and objectives in accordance with it’s Statement of Purpose
- Promoting robust professional relationships to ensure the best possible wrap around support for children and young people in all areas of their development
- Actively challenging other agencies when their responses are not effective and where necessary, escalating concerns as required.
- Fostering a culture that promotes tolerance and supports equality and diversity
- Promoting and utilising children’s views and participation to ensure that the organisation capture each child’s views and

- For the continual professional development of the team and for their own working practice.
Main Duties
- Day to Day Home Management
- To work closely with the Responsible Individual and the Directors to embed and develop the philosophy of the home in line with our home core ethos.
- To ensure that the home is managed efficiently and effectively providing a therapeutic, healthy and caring environment to a high standard meeting Ofsted’s Quality Standards and associated Children’s Homes (England) Regulations.
- To ensure deputies, seniors and all residential practitioners are focused on providing consistent standards in line with our statement of purpose and child’s care plan providing the best childcare for children.
- Ensuring the development of the child is met through the provision of a therapeutic home environment and having a committed team who exhibit consistent adult role-modelling behaviours and set consistent boundaries for the children.
- To actively contribute to the continuous improvement of childcare standards across our company.
- To ensure that all domestic duties are completed and the home remains clean and presentable at all times.
- To ensure that all paperwork / record keeping / operational procedures and manuals meet statutory requirements. Conducting regular quality assurance to ensure high standards are continually achieved.
- To oversee and monitor the overall maintenance of the house, liaising with the Health and Safety and Maintenance Department, ensuring the home meets statutory requirements, including Ofsted and Children’s Homes Quality Standards.
- Oversee and audit rotas and shifts to maintain adequate staffing levels within budget. To ensure cover in the event of an emergency or unusual circumstance and at all other times to be on call in the event of a perceived problem or emergency arising
Childcare / Safeguarding
- To oversee and monitor the records of children’s progress in the home and ensure that reports and attendance at meetings are completed and undertaken appropriately by staff members.
- To ensure staff are trained to meet the requirements of their role.
- To be actively involved in the referrals of the children and their placement plans.
Statutory Requirements and Policies and Procedures
- To follow legislation relating to children in care and residential settings in line with current Regulations and to apply the company’s policies and procedures effectively.
- To ensure that the retention of documents is managed in line with statutory requirements including the safe storage of documents in accordance with the Data Protection Act (1998) and Information Commissioner’s Office guidelines.
Leadership and Management
- To offer a high standard of leadership to the house team ensuring that all members of the team perform to a high standard and exhibit exemplary and consistent adult role model behaviour in order to meet children’s needs.
- To lead the staff team by example ensuring that every member of staff has supervision and support in place.
- To mentor and support the Deputy Manager and/or Senior Support Workers to develop their practice and develop through learning and reflection.
- To ensure all monthly monitoring and quality assurance checks are completed in a timely manner
- To be an excellent communicator and involve the staff team in company developments
Partnership Working
- To work closely with Local Authorities and professionals ensuring each child's care plan is followed.
- To promote professional working in partnership with parents, carers, social workers and any other organisation or persons
- To support the Responsible Individual in developing excellent working relationships with commissioners and local authorities.
Budget Management / Financial Controls
- To oversee and manage the home’s costs and maintain budgetary control.
- To oversee the weekly auditing of the weekly cash
- To ensure repairs are authorised and work is carried out in a timely manner.
- Ensuring financial controls are in place and records are retained regarding petty cash / child’s pocket money etc.
- To oversee and monitor rotas / staff records relating to hours worked, holidays, sick pay, and preparation of salaries or wages in liaison with the HR and Payroll departments. Ensuring overtime is spread across the team and used effectively.
Staff Teams and Recruitment and Selection
- Providing support during the recruitment and selection process (e.g. short-listing, interviewing, inducting and training new staff).
- To develop individual training plans for staff ensuring attendance at training to remain compliant with current regulation and practice requirements.
- To ensure the full induction and statutory training and qualifications are completed on time within the required timescales.
- Ensuring all members of staff receive regular supervision and are set clear objectives and priorities aligned to our buiseness goals.
- Ensuring each member of staff has a staff development plan that is maintained and updated regularly.
- To develop a culture of teamwork, resilience and high performance, to ensure all staff are maximising their potential and actively taking responsibility for their individual career progression.
- Promoting equal opportunities and ensuring fair policies and procedures are in place.
