An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Phycologist to join our Cardio-Respiratory Department.
To assist with the provision of Cardio-Respiratory services throughout the Trust and partnership agencies and to ensure the delivery of a high standard of service for both routine and emergency work.
The post holder will have the opportunity to develop skills in all areas of non-invasive Cardiology (ECG, ambulatory monitoring and reporting and physiologist-led exercise tolerance tests) as well as future exposure and rotation through the following areas: echocardiography, pacemaker follow-ups, and cardiac catheterisation.
Cardiac physiologists will be expected to continually consolidate and expand their skills by formal and informal means, constantly updating their knowledge in line with local and national policy.
A commitment to participation in the relevant societies and local and national groups and committees is essential.
The Cardio-Respiratory Department provides a high quality service for basic and advanced cardiac and
respiratory diagnostic investigations. A 24/7 service is provided for basic investigations such as ECG and spirometry which is provided by Senior ATO’s and Assistant Practitioners.

KEY DUTIES
To competently perform resting ECG’s on adults and paediatric out-patients and in-patients.
To competently analyse basic ECGs on adults
To competently perform ambulatory ECG (24, 48, 72, 7-day tests) and BP recordings.
To review and prioritise inpatient requests for cardiac investigations within ECG, ambulatory monitoring, exercise testing.
To effectively, promptly, and professionally respond to emergency situations maintaining control and requesting assistance as necessary.
To participate in training rotated through the department for on-going professional development and maintain standards of technical competency.
To assist with the efficient running of the technical service by prioritising the daily workload where appropriate.
To be responsible for identifying equipment faults, and directly resolve fault issues by reporting them in a timely manner to senior staff members.
To be responsible for the day-to-day running of the area in which they are working; ensuring all equipment is operational, stock levels are maintained, and that equipment and non-disposable items are cleaned according to departmental policies and procedures.
To ensure that all staff are aware of economical use of supplies.
To remain up to date with latest trends in clinical physiology translating these into practice and transferring this knowledge to staff within one’s area of responsibility.
To assist with research studies as required.
To participate in the in-house training and technical competency log within the department.
To participate in the training of student physiologists on rotation through the department.
To gain accreditation and join the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP).
To work in accordance to standards set by the Society for Cardiological Sciences and Technology (SCST) and the RCCP.
To ensure that all data entered onto any databases are performed in a timely and accurate manner and that statistical records and audits are produced when required.
Participate in a 24hr on call emergency rota covering a range of invasive and non-invasive tests.
Educational:
To actively participate and commit to maintaining own personal professional development, identifying educational and clinical training needs in conjunction with the Cardiac Investigations Manager and/or senior members of staff.
To ensure that own mandatory training is up to date.
CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver clinical skills and knowledge unsupervised across a wide range of basic and specialised clinical procedures.
Be proficient in a in a range of invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures.
Provide high quality care for patients.
Required to deliver complex information and instruction in a sensitive manner taking into account the diverse needs of all patients regardless of their age and abilities.
Required on a regular basis to communicate information concerning patients and their test results, giving advice and recommendations to a wide range of staff groups.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
To ensure the accuracy of data quality in line with departmental policies and procedures are all current and correct.

Participate in national and local audits
Ensure compliance with all Trust research governance procedures
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSBILITIES
Assists with the delivery of education programs in a broad range of subjects to a variety of staff throughout the Trust
Actively participates in the mentorship arrangement and takes an active interest in liaising with Higher Education Institutes providing teaching and placements when required.
