About Us
Compass Care Group is an organisation dedicated to providing safe, nurturing, and therapeutic residential care for children and young people. We are currently preparing to open a new children’s residential home and are seeking an experienced and proactive Responsible Individual (RI) to support the registration, launch, and ongoing governance of the service.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced RI or senior residential childcare professional who enjoys building services from the ground up and wants to play a key role in shaping a high-quality home from inception.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Responsible Individual who can provide strategic oversight, support the Ofsted registration process, and ensure the home is established in line with regulatory requirements and best practice.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Directors and Registered Manager to create a safe, compliant, and child-focused service that achieves excellent outcomes for children and young people.
This role is ideally suited to someone with previous experience opening new children’s homes and successfully supporting services through registration and inspection.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Responsible Individual in accordance with Ofsted regulations.
- Support the registration of the home with Ofsted.
- Provide strategic leadership and governance oversight.
- Ensure compliance with:
- Children’s Homes Regulations 2015
- Quality Standards
- Safeguarding requirements
- Ofsted guidance and expectations
- Support the recruitment and development of the Registered Manager.
- Assist in developing policies, procedures, and operational systems.
- Monitor quality assurance, audits, and regulatory compliance.
- Attend management meetings and provide professional guidance.
- Support preparation for Ofsted inspections.
- Promote a culture focused on safeguarding, therapeutic care, and positive outcomes for children.
Essential Requirements
Experience
- Previous experience as a Responsible Individual for a children’s residential home.
- Demonstrable experience supporting the opening and registration of new children’s homes.
- Strong understanding of:
- Ofsted registration processes
- Children’s Homes Regulations 2015
- Quality Standards
- Safeguarding legislation
- Experience supporting Registered Managers and leadership teams.
- Proven track record of achieving positive Ofsted outcomes.
Knowledge & Skills
- Excellent knowledge of residential childcare legislation and regulation.
- Strong leadership and governance skills.
- Ability to identify and manage compliance risks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and pragmatically within a growing organisation.
Desirable
- Experience opening EBD (Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties) homes.
- Experience supporting multiple homes.
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare.
- Experience working with therapeutic care models.
- Established relationships within the residential childcare sector.
