Class 1 HGV Driver – Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Class 1 HGV Driver to join Walkersteel Ltd. The role involves delivering steel products and customer orders throughout the UK while maintaining high standards of safety, customer service, and vehicle care.
Main Duties
- Deliver steel products and materials safely and efficiently across the UK
- Ensure loads are secured correctly and comply with transport regulations
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects immediately
- Complete delivery paperwork, PODs, and manifests accurately
- Maintain a professional attitude when dealing with customers and suppliers
- Assist with load checking where required
- Follow all company health & safety procedures and DVSA regulations
- Keep vehicles clean and presentable at all times
Requirements
- Valid Class 1 (C+E) Licence
- Valid CPC and Digital Tachograph Card
- Previous steel or heavy haulage experience preferred but not essential
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team
Working Hours & Flexibility
This role will involve occasional late returns depending on customer requirements and traffic conditions. Flexibility is essential, as nights out may also be required approximately 1–2 times per week.
