About the Role:
A specialist Alternative Provision in the London Borough of Lewisham is seeking a dedicated and resilient 1:1 Behaviour Support Assistant to join their supportive team on a full-time basis.
This rewarding role involves supporting Primary and Secondary-aged pupils with additional needs, helping them engage positively with education and develop emotionally and socially within a structured learning environment.
The provision supports pupils with:
- SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs)
- ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition)
- PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance)
- Behavioural Difficulties
Key Responsibilities:
As a 1:1 Behaviour Support Assistant, you will:
- Build strong and trusting relationships with pupils
- Provide emotional and behavioural support throughout the school day
- Support pupils during periods of dysregulation
- Assist students in accessing classwork and learning activities
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
- Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff
- Encourage confidence, independence, and engagement in learning
Class sizes are small (typically 6–7 pupils), with multiple support staff assigned to each class to ensure a high level of support.

We are looking for someone who is:
- Calm, patient, and resilient
- Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people
- Experienced working with children or young people with SEMH, ASD, PDA, or behavioural needs
- Confident managing challenging behaviour positively
- A strong communicator and team player
- Proactive and adaptable
Previous experience in education, youth work, mentoring, care, or support work is highly desirable.
