DEPARTMENT: BBC Türkçe
LOCATION: London Broadcasting House
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £36,000-£40,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. The successful candidate will also receive £5,441 London Weighting Allowance.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
This role is based in the BBC News Türkçe newsroom in London.
As part of a fast-paced newsroom, you will play a key role in delivering accurate, engaging and timely coverage of breaking news and major developments in Turkey, the wider region and the world. You will have strong editorial judgement, excellent writing skills and the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure while meeting tight deadlines.
The role requires a strong understanding of digital journalism and audience needs, with the ability to adapt content for social media and other platforms, while upholding the BBC’s values of accuracy, impartiality and independence.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
- Research, write, edit, translate and publish accurate, engaging content for BBC News Türkçe, ensuring compliance with BBC Editorial Guidelines.
- Monitor developments in Turkey, the region and globally, identifying and delivering relevant breaking and developing news stories.
- Create, adapt and optimise content for BBC News Türkçe’s website, social media and other digital platforms to meet audience needs.
- Generate original story ideas, contribute to editorial planning and collaborate across BBC News to produce high-quality journalism.
- Use digital publishing tools, multimedia storytelling techniques and flexible shift working to deliver timely content while adhering to BBC policies and standards.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential Criteria
- Excellent writing, editing and translation skills in Turkish, with the ability to produce clear, accurate and engaging journalism.
- Significant journalism experience, preferably in a digital news environment, with strong news judgement and the ability to identify, develop and prioritise stories.
- Proven ability to work effectively under pressure, respond quickly to breaking news and deliver high-quality journalism to tight deadlines.
- Strong understanding of digital journalism and social media, with experience producing and adapting content for digital and social audiences.
- Strong understanding of audience needs, including women, younger audiences and the ability to create relevant and engaging content for diverse audiences.
