Job Summary:
The Labourer will provide general support to tradespeople and site teams carrying out bathroom, kitchen, refurbishment, maintenance, and general building works within health healthcare facilities.
The role involves assisting with the preparation of work areas, moving materials, keeping sites clean and safe, and supporting skilled trades throughout projects. The successful candidate must be reliable, respectful, and able to work appropriately within healthcare and secure environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist skilled tradespeople with bathroom, kitchen, refurbishment, and maintenance works.
- Prepare work areas and ensure tools and materials are readily available.
- Load, unload, move, and store materials safely.
- Assist with the removal of old fixtures, fittings, flooring, units, and other materials as required.
- Carry out basic preparation works, including cleaning, filling, sanding, and making good.
- Keep work areas clean, tidy, and safe throughout each project.
- Dispose of waste and materials in accordance with site requirements.
- Assist with deliveries, material handling, and general site organisation.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and skilled tradespeople.
- Work in compliance with healthcare, health and safety, infection control, and site-specific requirements.
- Maintain a professional and respectful approach when working around healthcare staff and service users.
- Minimise disruption to clinical operations wherever possible.
- Assist with emergency maintenance and reactive works when required.
- Use tools and equipment safely and responsibly.
- Report any hazards, damage, defects, or concerns to the supervisor.
- Work collaboratively with tradespeople, contractors, and estates teams to complete projects on time
Essential Skills and Experience:
- 18 years of age or over.
- Reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
- Good general level of physical fitness.
- Willingness to carry out manual and practical work.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Good awareness of health and safety.
- Professional and respectful attitude.
- Ability to work within healthcare and secure environments.
- Good communication skills.
- Willingness to learn new skills and support skilled tradespeople.
- Previous labouring, construction, maintenance, or building experience is desirable but not essential.
- Full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a labourer or general operative.
- Construction or maintenance experience.
- Basic knowledge of tools and building materials.
- First Aid or other relevant health and safety training.
