Match-Day Therapist – Semi-Professional Football
Location: Eccleshall, Staffordshire
Match-day hours: Saturdays, approximately 1:00 pm–5:00 pm
Additional requirement: Some weekday evening training sessions
Contract: Self-employed / casual
Pay:
- £50 per match
- An additional £20 travel payment is provided for home fixtures in Eccleshall
- Team coach transport is available for away fixtures
- No additional travel payment will be provided for away fixtures where team transport is available
- £30 per training session
- This is a self-employed, sessional position
Total Fit Therapy is looking for a reliable and professional Match-Day Therapist to provide medical and injury support within a semi-professional football environment.
This is a hands-on position requiring consistent Saturday availability throughout the football season. It would suit a sports therapist, physiotherapist, rehabilitation professional or suitably qualified student who wants to develop practical experience within semi-professional football.
This is not an occasional or observational role. The successful applicant will be expected to take responsibility for match-day preparation, pitch-side injury management and the appropriate care of players.
Availability
Applicants must be available:
- On Saturdays, normally from approximately 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm
- For the majority of fixtures throughout the season
- For some weekday evening training sessions when required
- To arrive on time and remain available for the full session
The team’s home fixtures are played in Eccleshall. Applicants must be able to travel reliably to the ground.
Please do not apply if you cannot commit consistently to Saturdays during the football season.
Main Responsibilities
- Providing pitch-side injury and emergency first-aid cover
- Preparing the medical equipment and treatment area before fixtures
- Assessing and managing injuries within your qualifications and professional scope
- Making appropriate decisions about whether a player can safely continue
- Providing taping, strapping and basic pre-match treatment where appropriate
- Supporting players with warm-ups, rehabilitation or return-to-play work when required
- Communicating professionally with players, coaches and club staff
- Accurately documenting injuries, treatment and relevant incidents
- Recognising when a player requires referral for further medical assessment
- Attending selected training sessions where required
- Following the club’s emergency procedures, safeguarding requirements and professional standards
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be dependable and able to commit consistently to Saturday fixtures
- Hold appropriate professional indemnity and public liability insurance covering the work they will undertake
- Hold a current FA Level 2 Emergency First Aid in Football qualification (EFAiF), or be willing to complete it before working independently
- Have relevant sports therapy, physiotherapy, sports rehabilitation or similar training
- Work only within their recognised qualifications and professional scope of practice
- Have good communication and decision-making skills
- Be confident working independently in a fast-paced football environment
- Have reliable transport or a dependable way of travelling to Eccleshall
- Be professional, punctual and appropriately presented
- Maintain clear and accurate records
Evidence of qualifications, insurance and identity will be required before the successful applicant begins work.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience working in football or another pitch-side sport
- A sports therapy, sports rehabilitation or physiotherapy qualification
- HCPC, CSP or relevant professional-body registration, where applicable
- Experience with sports taping and strapping
- Knowledge of concussion recognition and football emergency procedures
- Experience supporting rehabilitation and return-to-play programmes
- A current enhanced DBS certificate

Reliability is essential. The club depends on the appointed therapist being present and prepared for fixtures. Applicants should only apply if they can make a genuine and consistent Saturday commitment.
