Job Introduction
We have an exciting opportunity for an Employee Relations Team Leader to join our People team, supporting our Retail operation.
This is a key role within our Employee Relations team, combining hands-on case management with the day-to-day leadership and support of a small team of Employee Relations Advisors. You will work closely with our regional teams, building trusted relationships and providing expert, practical guidance to help them manage employee relations matters confidently, consistently and in line with company policy.
Alongside managing your own regional ER caseload, you will help strengthen leadership capability through coaching, feedback and guidance. By identifying trends and sharing learning from cases, you will also play an important role in continuously improving our approach to employee relations and ensuring we deliver a fair, consistent and commercially focused service across Retail.
Job Overview
- Lead and provide day-to-day support to a small team of Employee Relations Advisors.

Manage your own regional ER caseload through to resolution, including complex and higher-risk employee relations matters.

Build strong, trusted relationships with regional teams, providing expert advice on employment law, company policy, risk and case strategy.

Balance legal requirements with commercial and operational considerations to support fair and consistent decision making.

Lead engagement with ACAS during Early Conciliation and support cases through the process.

Collating information and working with the legal team on Employment Tribunal cases

Coach and support leaders to build their confidence and capability in managing employee relations matters effectively.

Identify themes, trends and learning from cases, delivering guidance, briefings and practical improvements to help reduce recurring issues.

Maintain accurate case records and support audits, governance and data protection requirements.

Keep up to date with employment law and legislative changes, ensuring advice and working practices remain current and compliant.

Support the continuous improvement of Employee Relations processes, projects and ways of working.
Minimum Criteria To Apply
- Proven experience of leading a team of Employee Relations Advisors or equivalent relevant leadership experience.

Strong knowledge of UK employment law, including experience of ACAS Early Conciliation.

Experience managing a varied and complex ER caseload within a large, multi-site organisation, ideally Retail or a similarly fast-paced environment.

Experience advising and influencing senior stakeholders on complex and high-risk employee relations matters.

Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to balance legal risk with operational requirements.

Strong organisational, analytical and case management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

Confident communicator, able to provide clear and practical advice, coaching and guidance to stakeholders at all levels.

CIPD Level 5 qualified or equivalent relevant experience. CIPD Level 7 would be desirable.

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and HR information or case management systems.

Proactive, resilient and pragmatic, with the ability to work autonomously and take ownership.
