Part-Time Domestic Appliance / White Goods Engineer – Flexible Hours

We are a local charity dedicated to reducing waste by keeping good-quality household items in use and out of landfill.
We are looking for an experienced domestic appliance / white goods engineer to help us inspect and function-test donated appliances such as washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers before they are offered for resale. They will be PAT tested for you.
This is a small, flexible paid role which could particularly suit someone who is semi-retired, self-employed, or simply looking for a few additional hours of work. We have grant funding for 1 year to cover this role.
The role
- Inspect and function-test donated domestic appliances
- Identify obvious faults or issues that make an appliance unsuitable for resale
- Carry out minor repairs (replacing seals/hoses etc)
- Confirm appliances have completed the appropriate operational checks
- Record the results of testing using our straightforward checklist
- Provide occasional technical advice to our team where appropriate
This is primarily a testing rather than a repair role and there are no customer call-outs. Appliances are tested at our premises at Rotherwas, Hereford.
We're looking for someone who
- Has practical experience working with domestic appliances/white goods
- Understands appliance operation and common faults
- Can work independently and methodically
- Is reliable and happy to work within our testing procedures
Hours can be arranged flexibly - we're looking for around 8 hours a month - any day Tuesday to Saturday between 9am and 3pm - and we are happy to discuss a pattern that works for the right person.
Pay: Negotiable, depending on experience and arrangement
