Pay: £13.50–£15.00 per hour
Hours: Full-time and part-time positions available
Location: Plymouth – mobile/on-the-road role
The Role
We’re recruiting for a Removals Driver / Moving Team Member to join our Plymouth-based team.
This is a practical, active position suited to somebody who enjoys being on the move, working with their hands and being part of a team. The work includes driving our removal vehicles, safely moving furniture and household belongings, loading and arranging vehicles correctly, and providing a professional service to customers throughout their move.
Previous removals experience is certainly an advantage, but it isn't the only background we'll consider.
We’re equally interested in hearing from people who are naturally practical, physically strong and accustomed to demanding work. You might currently work in a trade, warehouse, delivery, fitness or another hands-on environment where reliability, care and attention to detail are important.
What matters to us is finding people with the right attitude who can be trusted to work carefully in customers' homes and look after their possessions properly.
Experienced Removals Professionals
If you already have three years or more of domestic removals experience, we'd particularly like to hear from you.
Experience gained with established local removal companies, including businesses such as Hackworthy, Cambridge or Whites, would be highly relevant.
For somebody with strong industry knowledge and the ability to take responsibility on jobs, there is scope to become an important member of the team and develop further as the company grows.
What We're Looking For
Applicants will ideally be able to demonstrate the following:
- Full UK driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points
- Previous experience driving larger vans, particularly 3.5-tonne Luton-style vehicles
- Confidence manoeuvring and operating larger commercial vehicles
- Good physical strength, fitness and stamina
- Ability to safely lift and handle furniture and household goods
- Understanding of how to load a removal vehicle safely and efficiently
- Ability to protect, position and secure customers' belongings during transportation
- Dependable attendance and good punctuality
- Good communication and availability when working
- Professional and presentable appearance
- Ability to organise your workload and manage time effectively
- Comfortable working closely with other members of a moving crew
- Friendly and respectful manner when dealing with customers
- Clear spoken English
- Careful approach with strong attention to detail
- Ability to think practically when unexpected problems arise
- Calm and sensible approach when working under pressure
- Positive attitude and willingness to take responsibility
Previous professional removals experience is preferred, although strong candidates from other suitable backgrounds will also be considered.
Additional Experience We'd Welcome
The following would be beneficial, although none are essential:
- Previous responsibility for supervising or leading a small team
- Experience dealing directly with customers during household moves
- Familiarity with removals work in Plymouth and the surrounding area
- Experience assessing moves or producing removal quotations
- Practical ability with tasks such as dismantling and rebuilding furniture
- General mechanical or maintenance skills
A Physical, Customer-Facing Job
Removals can be demanding work. You'll regularly be lifting, carrying, walking and loading throughout the working day, so applicants need to be comfortable with sustained physical activity.
You'll also spend a considerable amount of time inside customers' homes and workplaces. We therefore expect our team members to be courteous, approachable and professional while treating customers and their property with respect.
Our reputation is important to us, and anyone representing the company is expected to maintain appropriate standards of presentation and conduct. Applicants must also be able to work safely and reliably without drug or alcohol dependency affecting their work.
Where additional skills or knowledge are needed, training can be provided. We're therefore happy to consider candidates who don't tick every box but demonstrate a strong work ethic and genuine willingness to learn.
