We are a 4th generation family run scrap recycling business, looking for a Yard Manager to run our busy Romford Site directly reporting to the Operations Manager.
The Yard Manager is responsible for the safe, secure and efficient day-to-day management of the Yard. This is a hands-on operational management role combining forklift operation, weighbridge and documentation control, customer service, stock management, yard security and team supervision.
The role ensures smooth running of yard activities, accurate processing of materials and payments, and effective liaison with the Romford site to support overall operational efficiency.
The Yard Manager will lead and develop a small team of Yard Supervisors and Operatives and ensuring full compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.

What will your role as a Yard Manager look like?
- Managing the operations and productivity of the yard and all employees on site.
- Ensuring all equipment is maintained, clean and in working order at all times
- Ensuring yard employees and visitors are compliant with HSE requirements
- Responsible for the tidiness of the site at all times
- Stock Management on all commodities
- Quality control on all material
- Control of traffic flow in and out of the site
- Liaising with HR and the Office Manager on any timekeeping, sickness, disciplinary, performance issues
The person we are looking would ideally have the follow key skills:
- Knowledge and experience within Scrap Industry would be an advantage
- Good communication skills
- Good organisation and time management skills
- Works well under pressure, calm nature - level headed
- Punctual, reliable and flexible - would have to work at least 1 saturday per calendar month (8am-3.30pm)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £38,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Romford RM7: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience:
- Scrap metal: 3 years (preferred)
- Managerial : 2 years (required)
