Project Support Workers – The Y Advice & Support Centre
Salary: £12.97 per hour (£26,978 FTE)
Contract: 12-month fixed term funded post with potential funding for a further 2-years
Typical Working Hours: Four roles available, 16-30-hours per week: typically, Monday to Friday during service hours of 8am to 2pm

We are looking for warm, experienced and resilient Project Support Workers to join The Y Advice & Support Centre. You will welcome people experiencing homelessness and provide practical advice, person-centred support, helping them understand their options, access accommodation and specialist services, and make informed choices.
Working in a busy multi-agency hub, you will focus on “what’s strong”, rather than “what’s wrong”.
The role:
- Welcome visitors and help maintain a safe, calm and inclusive hub.
- Identify needs and provide advice, guidance and signposting.
- Support access to housing, emergency accommodation and welfare benefits.
- Help with online applications and advocate for individuals when appropriate.
- Connect people with health, mental health, substance use and outreach services.
- Work with local authorities, health providers and voluntary-sectors partners.
- Respond calmly to challenging situations while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Keep accurate, confidential records and contribute to service monitoring.
About you:
- You will be approachable, respectful and non-judgemental with
- At least two years’ experience working within homelessness or similar service.
- Experience supporting people experiencing homelessness and/or complex needs.
- Experience providing advice or support in a community or service setting.
- Strong communication and multi-agency working skills.
- The ability to build trust, maintain boundaries and respond calmly to challenges
- An organised, reliable and collaborative approach.
- A L3 Qualification in Social Work/ Youth & Community Development, Housing, Criminology or related field (desirable)

Appointment is subject to proof of eligibility to work in the UK, two satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check.
