HOUSEKEEPER / FAMILY ASSISTANT – PRIVATE FAMILY
Location: Notting Hill / Kensington, London
Full-time – Long-term position
A private family with four children is looking for an experienced, reliable and highly organised Housekeeper / Family Assistant to join their household on a long-term basis.
The household is already staffed, and the successful candidate will work closely with the family’s Head Housekeeper / Family Assistant and other household staff. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working as part of a team, while also being proactive and able to work independently.
Main Responsibilities
Housekeeping
The primary responsibility of the role is to help maintain the house to a high standard, including:
* Daily cleaning and general upkeep of the house
* Tidying and organising bedrooms and living areas
* Bathrooms and kitchen maintenance
* Laundry, ironing and wardrobe management
* Changing bed linen and towels
* Keeping children’s bedrooms, play areas and belongings organised
* Managing household supplies and informing the Head Housekeeper when products need to be reordered
* Helping maintain an organised and pleasant home environment
* Assisting with unpacking/packing and household organisation when the family travels
The candidate should naturally notice what needs to be done rather than waiting for detailed instructions.
Family Assistance
This is not primarily a nanny position, but the candidate must be comfortable around children and happy to help with them when required, particularly during the busy late-afternoon period.
Responsibilities may include:
* Helping with the children after school
* Assisting with children’s dinner and the evening routine
* Helping supervise the children when another member of staff is occupied
* Occasionally accompanying or collecting a child when required
* Helping organise school bags, uniforms and children’s belongings
* Supporting the household team when the parents are travelling or schedules change
The family has four children, including a baby, so experience working in a family household with children is important.
Dogs & Pets
The family has two friendly Golden Retrievers and a cat. The candidate must therefore be comfortable with animals.
Responsibilities include:
* Walking the dogs as part of the daily household routine
* Feeding the dogs when required
* Helping keep their areas clean and organised
* Making sure they have water and everything they need
* Occasionally assisting with basic pet-related arrangements when the family is away
The candidate should genuinely be comfortable handling and walking two dogs.
Household Organisation
The candidate will work closely with the family’s senior housekeeper, Ren, who coordinates the overall running of the house.
The role requires excellent teamwork and communication. Everyone should be willing to help each other depending on the needs of the day.
Flexibility is particularly important in a busy family household.
Working Schedule
The position is intended to provide afternoon and evening coverage, approximately:
Monday to Friday: 11:30/12:00 – 19:30
Some flexibility around the starting time may be possible depending on the final organisation of the household.
Weekend: approximately one weekend day when required, with the household team working on a rotation.
The precise weekly schedule can be agreed with the successful candidate.
Additional flexibility during family travel or particularly busy periods would be appreciated and would be discussed in advance.
Profile
We are looking for someone who is:
* Experienced in private households
* An excellent housekeeper
* Extremely reliable and punctual
* Discreet and trustworthy
* Organised and efficient
* Proactive and able to anticipate what needs to be done
* Comfortable working in a staffed household
* Happy to work around children
* Comfortable with dogs and able to walk two Golden Retrievers
* Calm and flexible
* Positive and cooperative with other members of staff
* Looking for a stable, long-term position
Good spoken English is required.
Previous experience with a family with several children would be a significant advantage.
Most Important
We are looking for someone who understands that working in a family home requires teamwork, flexibility and initiative.
