About the role
Identity Furniture designs and manufactures commercial furniture for workplace, education, healthcare and hospitality clients. Our installation team is the last pair of hands on every project and the first person the client meets on site — how the job looks and feels on handover comes down to the installer.
We are looking for an experienced installer to deliver and install our products at client sites. You will work as part of a small crew, typically on fit-outs ranging from single-room refreshes to phased floor-by-floor rollouts, working to a set programme and to the standard our clients expect. This is a hands-on, on-site role: you will be out with a van and on site most days or in the factory assisting with preparation or gathering of furniture and tools for the next installation.
Key responsibilities
Preparation and loading
- Check the pick list, drawings and floor plans against the load before leaving the factory, and flag shortages or damage before travelling to site.
- Load and secure goods safely and in install sequence, so the vehicle is unloaded in the order the site needs.
- Confirm site access arrangements ahead of arrival — parking, loading bay times, lift access, permits, protective coverings and on-site contacts.
On-site installation
- Set out and install commercial furniture to drawings and site dimensions: acoustic pods, acoustic screens and panels, soft seating such as chairs and sofas, tables, and other loose furniture.
- Assemble, level and align products accurately, including fixing to walls where specified and cable management through work booths.
- Carry out light modifications on site where required and approved — trimming, drilling, re-fixing — and adapt safely where site conditions differ from the drawing.
- Reconfigure, relocate or dismantle existing furniture, and remove and dispose of packaging and waste in line with the site waste plan.
- Work alongside other trades in a live fit-out, keeping to the programme and the main contractor’s sequencing.
Quality and handover
- Inspect and clean every item before handover so the installed area is snag-free and presentable.
- Record and report snags, shortages, damage and any variations with photographs and clear notes.
- Walk the completed area with the client or site contact, demonstrate product operation where needed, and obtain sign-off on delivery and completion paperwork.
- Complete job sheets, timesheets and van paperwork accurately and on time.
Health, safety and equipment
- Work to method statements and risk assessments (RAMS), site inductions and permit-to-work systems at all times.
- Use correct manual handling techniques and lifting aids — trolleys, panel lifters, stair climbers, straps — and work in pairs where loads require it.
- Wear and maintain issued PPE and keep working areas tidy and safe for the client’s staff and other trades.
- Keep the vehicle clean, roadworthy and legally loaded; report defects, damage and incidents immediately.
- Take responsibility for tools and equipment issued, and report loss or damage promptly.
Working with people
- Represent Identity Furniture professionally on client premises — presentable, courteous and discreet, often in occupied workplaces.
- Communicate clearly with the Management on progress, delays and problems as they arise, not after the fact.
- Support and help train less experienced installers or additional labour on site.
Experience and skills
Essential
- 2–5 years’ experience installing commercial, office or contract furniture, or a closely related fit-out trade (joinery, shopfitting, partitioning).
- Able to read and work from furniture drawings, floor plans and setting-out dimensions.
- Confident and accurate with hand and power tools; good practical problem-solving when site conditions do not match the drawing.
- Full UK driving licence — [category B minimum; category C1 desirable] — with a clean or near-clean record.
- Physically fit and comfortable with regular manual handling, working at height on steps or podiums, and being on your feet all day.
- Reliable, punctual and flexible about early starts, out-of-hours access and overnight stays away from home.
- Good standard of spoken English and clear written reporting for job sheets and snag lists.
- If you are not out on Install work you will be required to work in the factory.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
- Experience working under a main contractor on live construction or CDM-notifiable projects.
- Familiarity with occupied environments requiring extra care — healthcare, education, laboratories, data-sensitive offices.
Certifications and compliance
We will support and fund the following where you do not already hold them:
- CSCS card (essential for construction site access).
- Manual handling training.
- PASMA (mobile towers) and/or IPAF (powered access) where projects require it.
- Asbestos awareness (UKATA or equivalent) for work in existing buildings.
- Abrasive wheels / working at height / first aid at work — [as applicable to the role].
- Satisfactory [DBS / Disclosure Scotland] check and, where clients require it, additional security clearance or vetting.
What we offer
- £14.50 to £15.00 per hour depending on experience — based on 40 hours per week. Reviewed annually.
- Overtime paid at time and a half (£21.75 – £22.50 per hour), and a £25 per night allowance plus paid accommodation and meals when working away.
