As a Healthcare Assistant within the Adult Eating Disorders Service, you will work independently within outpatient clinic settings, providing physical health monitoring and supporting the safe and effective delivery of patient care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking physical health monitoring for patients with eating disorders, including:
- Venepuncture (blood sample collection)
- Recording weight, height, and BMI
- Performing and recording ECGs
- Monitoring blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturations, and temperature as required
- Identifying and escalating any physical health concerns, abnormal results, or risks promptly to the appropriate clinician.
- Working independently within clinic settings while maintaining regular communication with the multidisciplinary team.
- Ensuring all clinical observations and interventions are accurately documented within electronic patient records.
- Supporting the ongoing physical health monitoring requirements of patients in line with service protocols and care plans.
· Preparing and maintaining clinical equipment, ensuring it is clean, safe, and fit for purpose.
· Supporting patients in a compassionate, professional, and non-judgemental manner, recognising the sensitive nature of eating disorder treatment.
· Maintaining patient confidentiality and dignity at all times.
· Ensuring compliance with infection prevention and control procedures, health and safety requirements, and organisational policies.
· Recognising and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns and escalating these in line with local policies.
Experience required
Knowledge of primary health care practice to include ECG’s and phlebotomy
Awareness of Infection and Prevention Control Practices
Wide range of health care assistant experience
Able to use databases and other IT programmes including; EMIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Emails and Virtual meeting platforms
Able to communicate clearly to provide patients with reassurance and display empathy whilst obtaining a blood sample
Evidence of a good level of education
NVQ level 2, Care certificate or equivalent
Certificate of competence in adult venepuncture
Pay: £18.00 per hour
