We are seeking an Assistant Chef to join our team from the second half of March 2026.
We are a small, community-focused coffee shop, wine bar, and restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our approach is built on simple, seasonal menus, high-quality produce, and good-value food. We also host regular private dinners and events, and over the next year, we aim to expand both our opening hours and capacity to further strengthen our reputation and reach.
The Assistant Chef will work closely with the Head Chef/Owner in a small, hands-on kitchen. Typically, only one chef works per service, except during busy periods or events, so this role suits someone comfortable taking ownership of a shift.
This role offers a high level of independence and creative input. Menus change frequently, sometimes weekly, giving genuine room for research, experimentation, and development within established guidelines. You'll be part of a small, friendly, and supportive team where your ideas and input are valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day food preparation and service
- Event food preparation and service
- Menu development and planning
- Food safety, health, and hygiene compliance
- Stock control and ordering
- Equipment care and basic maintenance
- Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, including washing dishes and sanitising work surfaces
- Following food safety and hygiene regulations at all times
- Assisting with inventory management by checking stock levels and notifying supervisors of shortages
Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of Mediterranean cuisine, particularly Italian
- Previous professional kitchen experience preferred
- Ability to work independently and perform well under pressure
Requirements
- Minimum Level 2 Food Hygiene Certification
- Availability to work weekends
- Ability to cover periods as the main chef when required
Opening Days: Thursday to Sunday
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £14.50-£15.00 per hour
