Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Estates for an educational setting to oversee the management and maintenance. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, safety, and compliance of all estate-related activities. This role requires strong leadership, project management skills, and a solid technical background in mechanical and electrical systems. The ideal applicant will possess supervisory experience and be adept at managing multidisciplinary teams to deliver high standards across all estate functions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the risk and estates department, including maintenance, repairs, and refurbishment projects.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for estate development, optimisation, and sustainability initiatives.
- Oversee the utilisation of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), schematics, and electrical systems to ensure operational efficiency.
- Supervise technical teams responsible for mechanical, electrical, and building maintenance activities.
- Coordinate project management activities related to estate upgrades, renovations, or new developments.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations across all estate operations.
- Manage budgets, procurement processes, and contractor relationships to optimise resources.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify areas for improvement or repair within the estate infrastructure.
- Provide leadership in emergency response planning and incident management related to estate facilities.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance schedules, repairs, and upgrades for audit purposes.
Requirements
- Proven management experience within a facilities or estates environment, preferably within education.
- Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience supervising multidisciplinary teams.
- Mechanical knowledge combined with practical experience in maintenance operations.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively under pressure.
- Fluency in English is essential for communication across teams and stakeholders.
- Relevant qualifications in facilities management or a related discipline are desirable.
- Prior experience working with electrical systems and understanding of safety standards is advantageous.
