Job Title: Underwriting Assistant
Department : Professional Indemnity - Media, Property and Liability
Location : City of London (4 days in the office: 1 day working from home)
The Underwriting Assistant provides efficient and accurate administrative support to the Media, Property and Liability underwriting team, enabling the timely delivery of new business, renewals and endorsements. Working closely with underwriters and brokers, the role supports day-to-day underwriting operations, maintains data quality and ensures adherence to internal and regulatory standards. The position plays a key role in maintaining service levels and supporting portfolio management within a fast-paced London Market environment.
- Provide administrative and operational support to underwriters across new business, renewals and endorsements
- Prepare and process policy documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal standards
- Maintain and update underwriting systems and records, ensuring data integrity and completeness
- Liaise with brokers and internal stakeholders to obtain and clarify underwriting information
- Monitor the underwriting workflow / doary system, ensuring timely responses and follow-ups
- Assist in the preparation of underwriting files, reports and portfolio data as required
- Support credit control processes by ensuring accurate recording of premium and documentation
- Ensure adherence to company policies, regulatory requirements and governance standards
- Identify opportunities to improve administrative processes and support operational efficiency
- Collaborate with wider teams to support business objectives and deliver high-quality service
Essential:
- Previous experience in an administrative or support role, ideally within insurance or financial services
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
- Good communication skills with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Basic understanding of insurance principles and underwriting processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word
- Awareness of regulatory and compliance requirements within financial services
Desirable:
- Experience supporting underwriting teams within the London Market
- Progress towards or interest in professional qualifications such as ACII
- Familiarity with underwriting or policy administration systems
