Machine Operator / Groundworker
We are looking for an experienced Machine Operator / Groundworker to join our team. The successful candidate will need to be confident operating plant while also having a strong, practical background in general groundworks and construction.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience working as a groundworker and machine operator within the construction industry.
- Confident and competent operating small to medium-sized plant and machinery, including mini and midi excavators.
- Experience using excavator attachments for digging, breaking out, grading and general groundworks.
- Competent in loading, securing and towing plant trailers.
- Full UK driving licence with the appropriate towing entitlement for the vehicle/trailer combination being used.
- Good working knowledge of foundations, including setting out, excavation, levels and preparation for concrete.
- Good understanding of underground drainage, including excavation, pipe laying, falls, connections, manholes, inspection chambers and backfilling.
- Knowledge and experience of sub-floor build-ups, including hardcore/sub-base, compaction, sand blinding, DPM, insulation, reinforcement and preparation for concrete.
- Experience carrying out concrete works, including preparation, reinforcement, pouring, levelling and finishing.
- Experience preparing and installing patios and external paved areas, including excavation, sub-base preparation, levels, falls and laying.
- Ability to accurately read construction drawings and specifications.
- Must be able to scale dimensions from drawings and transfer measurements and levels accurately onto site.
- Competent using laser levels and general setting-out equipment.
- Good understanding of site levels, falls and finished floor/ground levels.
- Able to work independently and as part of a wider construction team.
- Able to plan works, identify required materials and communicate requirements to the site/project management team.
- Good understanding of health and safety, particularly when operating plant, excavating and working around underground services.
- Reliable, punctual and able to maintain a good standard of workmanship.
Desirable
- Valid CPCS or NPORS plant qualifications/tickets.
- Current CSCS card.
- Experience working on residential extensions, refurbishments and external landscaping projects.
- Experience with block paving, kerbs, edgings, ACO drainage and external finishing works.
- Experience working around existing services and using service drawings/detection equipment.
- Experience operating dumpers, rollers, breakers and other associated groundworks plant.
- Ability to undertake basic setting out from architectural and structural drawings.
The Person We're Looking For
This is not solely a machine-operating position. We are looking for somebody who is equally comfortable getting off the machine and carrying out groundworks manually as part of the team.
The right person will be experienced, practical and capable of looking at a set of drawings, understanding what needs to be achieved and working with the team to deliver the groundworks to the required levels and specification.
Pay: £180.00-£210.00 per day
