Are you ready to take the lead in delivering high quality highways maintenance across the east coast of North Yorkshire? NY Highways is looking for a skilled Ganger to join our dedicated team at our Whitby Depot.
As a Ganger, you’ll play a key role in improving infrastructure across towns, villages, and rural communities. You’ll lead a team, manage projects, and ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

About the Role
As a Ganger, you’ll lead a team of at least four operatives, delivering maintenance and construction works in and around Whitby. From kerb installation and drainage repairs to footway construction and traffic management, your work will directly impact the safety and quality of our roads.
You’ll also play a key role in supporting our internal surface treatment programme, including Slurry works across Whitby and Scarborough. This will involve assisting with the preparation, application and delivery of specialist treatments to help extend the life of highway assets. Full training will be provided, making this a great opportunity to develop additional skills within the role.
You’ll also:
- Ensure works are completed to specification and on schedule
- Manage supply chain partners and coordinate site activities
- Operate equipment and carry out routine and cyclical maintenance
- Participate in out-of-hours call-outs for emergencies and winter maintenance
This is a physically active, outdoor role requiring a good level of fitness. Full PPE and outdoor clothing will be provided.

What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Level 2 qualification in highway maintenance or equivalent experience
- Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation, risk assessments, and safe systems of work
- Proven experience leading and directing a team
- Willingness to learn specialist surface treatment (Slurry) operations (full training provided)
Desirable (training provided if needed):
- Banksman, Manual Handling, Abrasive Wheels, Emergency First Aid, Safe Dig
- Traffic Management TM1 and TM2
