Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and physically capable Yard Operative to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting warehouse operations, handling materials, and ensuring the efficient movement of goods within the yard. This role requires a proactive approach, mechanical aptitude, and experience with warehouse management systems. The Yard Operative plays a vital part in maintaining safety standards and supporting logistics processes across our site.
Responsibilities
- Operate forklift trucks safely and efficiently to load, unload, and move materials around the yard.
- Assist with shipping and receiving activities, ensuring accurate documentation and handling of goods.
- Load and unload lorries, containers, or pallets, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Handle materials using appropriate manual or mechanical techniques, including heavy lifting when necessary.
- Support warehouse management system updates for inventory control and stock tracking.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment such as forklifts to ensure operational safety.
- Maintain a clean and organised yard environment, adhering to health and safety standards at all times.
- Assist with general maintenance tasks related to yard operations and equipment upkeep.
- Collaborate with team members to optimise workflow efficiency and meet operational deadlines.
Skills
- Proven experience operating forklift trucks in a warehouse or construction environment.
- Strong understanding of warehouse management systems (WMS) and materials handling procedures.
- Mechanical knowledge relevant to equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Experience in construction or heavy lifting tasks is advantageous.
- Knowledge of shipping & receiving processes and documentation requirements.
- Ability to load & unload goods safely while adhering to health & safety regulations.
- Physically fit with the ability to perform heavy lifting tasks regularly.
- Organised with good attention to detail to ensure accurate stock control and safety compliance.
