Protyre Autocare is looking for an adaptable and forward-looking Assistant Centre Manager. This back-of-house technical role ensures workshop excellence, safety, productivity, and technical quality across the centre. You will be responsible for optimising workshop flow and bay utilisation, maintaining the highest standards of technical quality and safety, coaching technicians, and stepping up to lead the centre operationally in the Centre Manager’s absence. You will be the technical heart of the Protyre operating model.
Success in this role will come from directly owning the technical execution and standards, enabling the Centre Manager to focus on people’s leadership, culture, and commercial performance.
- Working Pattern:Monday - Friday 8:30 to 5:30, Saturday 8:30 to 4pm
- Must have: Strong technical background as a vehicle technician / mechanic with proven diagnostic and repair experience and supervisory, team leader, or senior technician role (workshop or fast-fit environment)
- Full UK Driving Licence, held for at least 6 months (age restrictions may apply – points or offences may affect your application)

About the role:
- Own workshop operations, flow, productivity and technical quality, optimising bay utilisation, job allocation and labour efficiency to deliver right-first-time work and maximise workshop output
- Maintain the highest standards of technical quality, vehicle safety and workmanship, leading quality checks, final inspections and continuous improvement in technical standards
- Coach, mentor and develop technicians on a day-to-day basis, raising technical capability, embedding new operating model standards - supporting skill development and career progression.
- Make operational decisions in the Centre Manager’s absence, ensuring continuity of service, standards and team performance.
- Champion readiness for new technologies (EV, ADAS, advanced diagnostics), support continuous improvement and work collaboratively with the Centre Manager and Protyre Expert to deliver seamless front-to-back customer journeys.
- Drive compliance, safety and data integrity in the workshop, partnering with Area Compliance on audits and risk assessments while contributing accurate technical records and performance KPIs.
About you:
- Previous experience as a Workshop Controller, Workshop Manager, or Senior Technician in a fast-fit or dealership environment
- Experience with EV / high-voltage systems and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)
- Excellent technical knowledge across tyres, MOT, servicing, brakes, suspension, diagnostics, and emerging technologies (EV/ADAS)
- Technically excellent with deep diagnostic and repair expertise, combined with high personal standards of quality, safety and integrity that set the benchmark for the workshop team
- Great leadership and coaching skills — able to develop technicians and raise technical standards
