Summary
We are seeking a cook, not a chef, with the right attitude, who takes pleasure in cooking and presenting attractive and tasteful traditional English food for our residents, most of whom live with dementia.
You are likely to be a person who would feel at home in this caring and friendly environment. The ideal candidate will enjoy cooking homely food for people and have a natural affinity to interact with the elderly.

We have a rotating four weekly menu separately for the summer and winter. Breakfast is usually cereal and toast but cooked breakfast is also offered for residents. Lunch is a cooked meal – main and dessert. Some alternative options are offered to residents with particular dietary needs and preferences. Roast is prepared twice each week including Sunday. Soups and desserts are also offered daily. Sandwiches / finger food is prepared daily for supper.
Fresh cakes are baked daily and celebratory cakes prepared on residents’ birthdays.
You will work alone in the kitchen and have full responsibility for food preparation and cooking. Also clearing up and cleaning. You will also take responsibility for ordering frozen and chilled food, dairy products, dry groceries and other provisions. You will help to develop a rotating menu with input from the Registered Manager.
You will be required to maintain a very high standard of food hygiene in the kitchen as required by the Food Standards Agency.

Qualifications
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication skills and team spirit.
- Previous experience in a care or restaurant setting is advantageous.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing needs.
- A caring attitude towards elderly residents.
