Job Summary
Do you want to specialist scaffolding and access contractor working on some of the South West’s most demanding infrastructure? Including: live railway bridges, motorway viaducts, Grade I listed heritage structures and major commercial builds.
What makes us different is our in-house design office. Our engineers design what our teams build — from TG20:21-compliant standard scaffolds to fully bespoke temporary works such as suspended decks over live railways, designed to BS 5975 and the Eurocodes using AutoCAD, ScaffPlan, Revit and Tekla, supported by our own laser scanning and 3D point-cloud workflow.
The Role
We are looking for a graduate or junior design engineer to join our design team and grow into a fully capable scaffolding and temporary works designer. You will be mentored by experienced engineers, with a structured route towards professional qualification, and you will see your designs built, often within weeks, on real bridges, stations and heritage sites.
This is a genuine development role in a growing business: as the design workload expands, we need someone who can take ownership of standard designs quickly and progress to complex bespoke schemes.
What you’ll do
- Produce scaffold and access design drawings in AutoCAD and ScaffPlan (training provided), progressing to Revit/Tekla models
- Prepare TG20:21 compliance checks and, with mentoring, bespoke design calculations to BS 5975 and the Eurocodes
- Work with laser-scan point clouds to design around real site geometry
- Attend site surveys and design reviews with clients and our operational teams
- Support estimators with design input, activity schedules and material quantities
- Help keep design programmes, drawing registers and design risk assessments up to date
What we’re looking for
Essential:
- Degree (or HNC/HND plus relevant experience) in civil, structural or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
- Working knowledge of CAD (AutoCAD or similar) from study or work
- Sound grasp of structural principles and a genuine interest in temporary works
- Organised, accurate and able to manage your own workload to deadlines
- Comfortable on construction sites (full training and PPE provided)
- Full UK driving licence (or working towards) and the right to work in the UK
Desirable – not expected, so please still apply:
- Any exposure to scaffolding, temporary works, TG20, BS 5975 or Eurocodes
- Experience with ScaffPlan, Revit, Tekla or point-cloud tools
- A placement year or site experience in construction or rail

Pay: £26,701.10-£56,896.42 per year
