Job Title: Personal Assistant
Responsible to: Parents (Employer)
Rate of pay: £8.50 per hour
Hours of Work: 20 hours per week (After school – 7pm Monday to Friday).
Purpose of the Job:
Looking for the right carer for a 10 year old boy. He has developmental delay resulting in similar requirements to those of a child around 24-36 months. He wears pads and requires frequent changes.
He has genetic conditions and uses a wheelchair when out of the house. He also has autism, sensory processing disorder and epilepsy. The epilepsy ranges in type and severity and is generally successfully managed through diet and medication.
Background:
We are a family of five with all three children under the age of 13. Our son, who requires the care, is generally very happy and gentle in nature. He enjoys play with others, particularly one to one play with an attentive adult. He is very easy to develop affection for and most who meet him feel pleased by the experience.
Supervision:
As a Personal Assistant you will be directed by the employer (Parent) and be accountable to them in all aspects of your work. You should always ask what his needs are and listen to our directions and requests.
Assistance
To carry out any chosen activity whether inside or outside my home, by carrying out any other requests which I may reasonably make. These tasks may include :
- Full personal care including feeding, changing and washing
- Gastro care
- One to one support and play
Additional duties may include:
- Tidying up after play
- Making ‘Milk’ for feeds
- Administering medication to child if required
Health & Safety
- You have a responsibility as an Employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You must record all details in the accident book.
- You have a duty to report defects and /or hazards which may give rise to an accident
Required qualities:
- Previous experience preferred but not essential as full training can be given
- Epilepsy training preferred but not essential as full training can be given
- Good health/fit
- Able to work flexibly
- Able to follow instructions accurately from employer
- Reliable, trustworthy
- Good sense of humour
- Patience and empathy.
- An enhanced disclosure and barring check will be required.
- Legally entitled to work in the U.K.
