We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEMH school in King's Lynn for a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join a supportive and experienced team. This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to have a genuine impact on the lives of children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
No two days are ever the same. You'll build positive relationships with pupils, help them regulate their emotions, celebrate every success, and support them to overcome barriers to learning.
The Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will:
- Build trusting, positive relationships with pupils.
- Support pupils both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Use de-escalation techniques to help pupils manage their emotions and behaviour.
- Encourage engagement in learning and personal development.
- Work closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff.
- Support pupils during outdoor learning, enrichment activities and transitions around the school.
- Help create a safe, consistent and nurturing learning environment.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- Calm, patient and emotionally resilient.
- Confident working with children or young people who present challenging behaviour.
- A strong communicator who can build positive relationships.
- Adaptable and able to respond positively to changing situations.
- Physically able to work in an active school environment.
- Passionate about making a lasting difference.
Experience within education, care, youth work, mental health, residential care, the armed forces, coaching or similar support roles is highly desirable, although full training will be provided for the right person.
The Environment
This specialist setting supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Some pupils can display behaviours that challenge, so it's important that successful applicants are prepared to work in an environment where patience, consistency and resilience are essential.
You may be required to support pupils during behavioural incidents using positive behaviour strategies. Full training, including de-escalation and positive handling (where appropriate), will be provided.
The role may also involve supporting pupils with personal care when required.
